Cycle Empowerment
Human beings have been living for too long like fish out of water and yet we wonder why dis-ease is so high, why mental illness is so common and why most people do not feel fully satisfied with life. Human beings are, as nature is, cyclical; particularly women.
Men share a deep connection with the sun, but women with the moon. For example, men’s hormones are on a 24hr cycle, peaking in the morning and dropping at night. Women on the other hand, fluctuate throughout the month. This knowing was taken and distorted even further by the patriarchal system, clinging to the fact that men can “appear” at least, fairly similar in their mood and productivity every day, placing all humans on the conveyor belt of linear living.
Go to school, get a job, pay bills, show up in a good mood every day, be in high productivity every day, perform at the same standard every day. Throw in birth control and people pleasing and we have a recipe for disaster; a mass disconnection to our cyclical nature.
Our cycle is our power source. Every phase is significant for our growth and evolvement. Ignoring this disempowers us and more often than not, actually keeps us “stuck” in life, unable to move forward. Never honouring the phases of our personal cycles means being constantly on the verge of burn out; stress hormones wreaking havoc on the body and instead of our energy being used in moving forward towards our goals, our energy is being spent in survival mode; repairing the damage of a body in constant stress. Not only is this a guaranteed path to some sort of dis-ease or imbalance within the body, but it also keeps us out of alignment with our highest purpose.
There is great significance in every phase of the cycle. If we look at a flower in bloom, could it have bloomed if it didn’t first spend that time sprouting from its seed in the dark, quiet womb of the earth? Each month we have the opportunity to bloom too, but we may never give ourselves the chance if we don’t allow ourselves time to sprout first in the ground.
We have been taught to demonize “low energy” days, when in reality this is where we can truly upgrade. Even sickness is an opportunity for a major upgrade. Anything that makes us quieter, tireder, more inward; is a gifted time from our higher selves to receive either physical upgrades through healing, or mental downloads of information and inspiration. Being able to pause and reflect is vital for our growth but also for our peace.
To truly understand, appreciate and benefit from living in alignment with our natural cycles, we must know our natural cycles. Cycle tracking is such a helpful tool for bringing more self awareness and a deeper understanding and appreciation for the inner workings of the body. If you have a regular cycle, tracking it can help you get to know more about yourself, your needs and how to work with your phases to get the most out of life. If you have an irregular cycle, bringing awareness through tracking is even more important, as this can help you identify areas of your life that are calling for more balance, love & attention.
Tracking your cycle is as simple as noting down where you are at, the date and acknowledging any physical and emotional changes that you experience. For example, noting when you bleed and any changes to your cervical mucus that indicates ovulation, as well as any highs and lows you feel in your energy levels and emotional mood. Depending on what your goals and needs are, it’s also helpful to note any noticeable changes to your cycle, positive or negative and refer back to the previous month to try to recognise any potential causes. The beauty of a monthly cycle is, we can improve the next cycle by how we live in the previous cycle.
Some of the biggest issues women experience, PMS, severe period cramps, etc can all be accessed and improved through this method of bringing deep awareness and taking informed action towards cyclical health. These issues are common but it doesn’t mean they’re normal. It isn’t normal for women to hate their cycles, to despise their monthly bleed, to be in crippling pain or feel emotionally unstable, all in the name of hormones. Being a woman doesn't have to be this unlucky card we’ve been dealt. With devotion and awareness, reclaiming our cycle empowerment truly is the greatest gift we can give ourselves as women.
Okay, so what about those of us who have no cycle to track? Let’s dive in to how the moon can help us.
I’ve experienced three different times in my life where I have had no regular cycle of my own to track; 1. Due to PCOS, not ovulating or bleeding for years at a time 2. During pregnancy and 3. During post-partum & breastfeeding. During all of these times the moon has been my guiding light, literally.
There was also the near decade of being on birth control where of course I had no natural cycle, just a pretend monthly period, which i perceived as nothing more than a miserable, painful inconvenience to my life. I honestly had no knowledge or awareness that life was any different without having or knowing the power of my natural cycle; until I knew.
Once birth control was detoxed out of my body, I truly felt like I had been reborn. I had never felt so “me” in all my life. Through reclaiming my cycle empowerment, I unlocked so much of my magic, my creative gifts, my power as a woman, as well as new depths of love, compassion and security within my body. I felt like I was only partially-me while I was on birth control. The world has not been the same since my womb awakening.
My healing journey took years of immense dedication and devotion to self. Using the Miracle Mastery Method made things easier; I was able to heal from the root cause of my dis-ease, bringing deep awareness and taking action towards both physical and energetic changes needed in my environment. I was determined to bring balance to my body, despite the limitations I had been told by several doctors about the nature of a hormonal imbalance like PCOS. I believed my body was capable of healing, long term. Declining medical “advice” to go back on birth control, I continued on my healing journey, reversing my symptoms month after month, trusting my body in the waiting for the return of my cycle.
My healing journey took me on a beautiful path of womb wisdom, feminine energy and the lower chakra energy centers. I also became a devoted student to the energies outside of me, astrology and the moon. Learning about the moon taught me so much about myself. I was able to use her guidance when my own guidance system was dormant. I was able to sync with her in the way I was living, in order to give myself space to feel the fullness of my cycle and all of the phases. I tracked how I felt during certain moon phases and continued to live in alignment with this awareness.
After all, I wanted a regular cycle and here there was, the most beautiful guiding example of that, that I had the honour to witness or at least know of its presence in my sky every night. The moon’s cycle and a woman’s cycle are so deeply connected and deeply representative of one another. So it only made sense that in wanting to regulate my own cycle, to learn directly from hers.
I would follow the moon’s cycle, noting down changes in my own energy and for the first time, getting to know myself in a more cyclical way. I would also use lunar events such as new moons and full moons to amplify the energy of my manifestations, which at the time were centered around my continued healing and the return of my cycle.
I noticed how I felt during the dark moon, more inward, more private, lower in energy but deeper in wisdom. While around the time of the full moon and as it began to wane, I felt more energised, more outward, more creative, more externally confident and bright. I learned how we experience the four seasons in each month, embodying different archetypes, different energies, all with significance and all with purpose. I no longer villainised my lower energies as I learnt the deep value, wisdom and upgrades they bring when that time is honoured and nurtured. I learned how we can be supported and guided by the amplified energies of the moon, planets and stars and with a little understanding and awareness this can actually help us thrive in so many ways.
I learned how my own birth plays a role too; the moon I was born under, the sign, the phase, all with great significance and not only determining my own personal cyclical energies through the month, but also physical aspects such as ovulation. I enjoyed a whole year of my own monthly cycles, my own sacred bleed times, learning so much about myself and falling deeper in love with my miraculous body and what it truly means to be a woman. A whole year of cycles until I conceived my baby girl, under the waning gibbous moon, the same moon I was born under, the moon that still to this day I have learnt is my most energising and most creative time of the month. I would encourage anyone who would like to know, to do a quick internet search of the moon phase on your date of birth, maybe this will be significant for you each month too.
Since being pregnant and now still in postpartum and breastfeeding, I don’t have my own hormone cycle or bleed times to track, so I still use the beautiful light of the moon for guidance, in alignment with my own personal energies, as well as astrological influences during those times. This helps me to give myself time when I need it, which is not always easy as a parent, but so important. It helps me to avoid burnt out, to do my best work when I’m in “the mood” and to rest and reset when my energy communicates that. This level of self awareness has truly been so empowering for me and I believe every woman deserves to reap the benefits from their own journey of Cycle Empowerment.
We deserve to know our power as women; we deserve to witness and honour ourselves in all seasons and phases, we deserve to give ourselves the space to hear our own wisdom, to grow in the dark so we can bloom in the light. We deserve to truly thrive through life, in beauty, balance and creative abundance, just like nature does.
